It was January 2nd and we were visiting family from out of town when our 2003 Toyota Camry lost its heat, and started overheating. We were in a prime situation to be taken advantage of and fretted bringing this to an unfamiliar garage. But we knew we found the right place when we heard NPR playing in the garage! They diagnosed it as a stripped head bolt and blown head gasket. Jim's explanation of the diagnosis was incredibly detailed and he took time to answer all of my questions. Though they were not familiar with the ins and outs of this specific repair on this car, they did an outstanding job and gave an honest and accurate quote for the cost. When I picked up the car, Jim and his crew personally gave a show and tell of all the bad parts and explained all of the repair work in detail.

2 guys in a small shop--specialize in foreign cars. They do good work, schedule promptly. They even fix stuff (like dead brake lights, busted hoses, etc.) if you just drive in. Also bright and funny.

Jim, the shop owner, is incredibly competent and decent. Willimantic Autoworks is not the cheapest, but it is the most competent shop I have ever taken a car.

While I am not particularly clever about cars, I thought the stuff my husband was saying about why my car kept stalling seemed, well, wrong. We have long argued about maintenance on my car, me wanting to do everything the dealer said, and him not wanting to do any of it, because it was "just the dealer's way to screw us over." After something was obviously wrong with the car, I took it to Jim. He not only explained in terms my non-mechanical mind could understand what was wrong, but when my husband came with me to pick up the car, he politely explained what was NECESSARY maintenance to both of us, when what the dealer recommended should be followed, and what was their trying to rip us off. I don't see myself using another shop.

I met Jim and Chip through a boyfriend over 25 years ago, lost track of the boyfriend, but have remained in contact with Jim and Chip over the years. They are just fantastic folks. When we lived in the area, my husband would go over at the end of the day with a six of good beer and chat with them. While we have moved out of the area, we still call once in a while to troubleshoot and catch up; Jim always takes the time to talk to us. They remind me of Click and Clack, super sense of humor, wit and intelligence. If it's broke, they can fix it, but if it ain't, they wont.

These guys are really good at what they do. They found an evap system leak that three other shops couldn't find. One little thing to note, though, is that they don't take many holidays, but do take the whole month of August off.

This place is God's gift to Subaru owners! Jim knows the quirks of old Subarus and is up-to-date on what gives with the new ones. VERY friendly, helpful place for women like me, who listen to their car and want new noises diagnosed ASAP. If a new problem arises, I call the shop, am invited to drive by, and Jim takes a look. Within minutes, I know whether the problem is serious and needs immediate attention or whether I can wait for a day or weeks to fix it. On occasion, I've stopped by for a quick diagnosis only to have a quick on-the-spot fix. An excellent place for women to take their cars--trustworthy mechanics here treat all customers respectfully and professionally. If you want/need an explanation of what gizmo is misbehaving in your car, they'll provide it. Just ask. Trustworthy, knowledgeable, and worth the price.
