Do I need a new heater fan?

Dear Tom and Ray:

I have a '79 Buick Century. My heater fan won't stay on high. When I switch to high, it either does nothing, or runs for a few minutes, then kicks off. It works fine on low and medium.
Any suggestions?

RAY: Well, if you're a real cheapskate, my suggestion would be to buy a pair of Bronco Nagurski long underwear and forget about it. But if you're willing to sink $50 bucks into this heap, George, you can simply have the fan switch replaced.

TOM: You obviously live in a cold part of the country. After ten years of strenuous use, the metal contacts on the "high" position of the fan switch have finally bought the farm. You got your money's worth out of this fan switch, George. Splurge for a new one.

RAY: Another option would be to move about 400 miles south. That should put you in a climate which only requires the "medium" setting. But don't go too far south, or you'll need "high" again for the air conditioner.
