The 2016 Honda Pilot embodies all of the forward thinking, family friendly technology features that you would expect in a top-selling SUV – and more. The upcoming model includes an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen display with an Android interface, new generation 2.0 Sirius XM radio, Pandora, SMS text messaging, HondaLink connected car system, and a Blu-Ray DVD/CD rear entertainment system (Touring and Elite trim levels).
The 2016 Honda Pilot LX will offer a 200-watt AM/FM radio with 7-speakers (including a subwoofer) and a USB port to accommodate compatible devices. It can play Pandora via the USB port or operate wirelessly via the Bluetooth HandsFreeLink system. The LX audio package also features a 5-inch display screen with conventional knobs and buttons to control its many functions. A dealer installed CD player is also available at an additional charge.
The new Display Audio package (offered on the 2016 Honda Pilot EX, EX-L, touring, and Elite trim levels) is the most advanced technological package ever presented by Honda. The focal point of the cockpit is an intuitive and easy-to-use 8-inch touchscreen display that operates in a similar manner to a tablet or smartphone that allows you to swipe, tap, or pinch to control the vehicle’s audio functions, settings, and other advanced features. EX and EX-L trim levels get a 225-watt stereo (with 7-speakers including a subwoofer) while the top-tier trim level Touring and Elite versions get a 540-watt system (with 10-speakers including a subwoofer).
The EX-L with Navigation Package, as well as the Touring and Elite level versions, include a fully integrated and fully featured Honda Satellite Link Navigation with continuously updated traffic info. The Display audio interface links automatically to your programmed Android smartphone and uses icons that resemble those of a smartphone displayed in high definition on the capacitive touchscreen. This makes accessing and using the interface smooth and easy. Internet connectivity, music, and media options are available at a touch of your fingers with this innovative new system that promises to help the Honda Pilot maintain its dominance in the SUV segment.
Wireless Android smartphone compatibility can be used through Bluetooth safely via the HandsFreeLink. Internet options such as the popular Pandora app can be linked to the audio system. The 8-inch capacitive touchscreen allows you to rate audio choices using a “Like” or “Dislike” much as you would when using a tablet or laptop. The Pilot’s audio screen will display Pandora album art and the audio controls will allow you to choose stations, pause, resume, or skip entries according to your particular taste.
The 2016 Pilot Display Audio package will also include the Siri Eyes Free app. iPhone users will be able to operate Siri using voice commands by pressing and holding the “TALK” button on the steering wheel anytime their iPhone is linked to the vehicle. By combining voice commands with the Siri Eyes Free system potential distractions are minimized by preventing the iOS device screen from being illuminated. Owners can direct Siri to perform a number of tasks, including:
- Send text messages and e-mails
- Read incoming text messages and emails
- Set up calendar entries, reminders, and alarms
- Check the weather
- Turn-by-turn voice navigation (when the audio system is set to Bluetooth® Audio or iPod mode)
- Get sports scores and stock quotes
